Post It Calendar How To ⋆ Design Mom

I love a pretty wall calendar in my office, but since 2009, our main family calendar has been built each month on the kitchen bulletin board. We use Post-its. 

I created our first Post-it when our oldest, was very young and couldn’t comprehend how many days it was until Halloween. The distinct squares helped him understand — and we crossed out each day as we went along. But it ended up being so functional and helpful, that we’ve made it a permanent fixture in our dining area.

It’s a nice monthly ritual. My kids help. They like to pull down the old squares, and pick out colors for the new month — typically based on any applicable holidays (red or green during December, orange during October). It helps each child understand the different number of days in each month.

Also, it’s big. So we have plenty of room to write our daily activities. We like to make our on our bulletin board, but, there’s only room for one month at time, so thinking ahead to the next month gets tricky. To solve that, you could use the fridge or just blank wall space, and display multiple months.

P.S. — Because we usually display ours on the bulletin board, we’ve also used cut squares of colored paper instead of Post-its (sometimes we’re out of Post-its). We staple the squares directly to the bulletin board.On the months I cut out my own squares, we can go bigger or smaller as we see fit. I like that kind of flexibility and control.
